Councillors’ Election Platforms – Update

Each successful Councillor in the 2018 Port Hope municipal election published a “platform” which listed a number of actions that they intended to undertake. We documented all these statements by taking them verbatim from their published material. Click HERE to see what they published.

PHCA undertook to periodically check with each Councillor to find out the status of their platforms and publish the results. On July 9 we asked each Councillor and the Mayor to comment and said that we would publish the results on July 31, 2019.

Deputy Mayor Les Andrews responded quickly and detailed the progress that had been made for each of the 6 items on his list. Councillor Carr did respond but declined to comment about her pre-election platform, stating that she regarded the request as “challenging” and “a bit unfair.”

Mayor Sanderson also declined to comment about his platform and stated that he was “personally gratified to hear that councillors have not responded.” He also added that anything I wish to bring forward must receive the support of the majority of council. This totally negates the concept of reporting to you on individual accomplishments.”

We have not heard anything from the following Councillors:

  • Councillor John Bickle (Rural Ward)
  • Councillor Vicki Mink (Rural Ward)
  • Councillor Jeff Lees (Urban Ward)
  • Councillor Wendy Meadows (Urban Ward)

You can read the responses (verbatim) we received by clicking HERE.

We would be most interested in hearing from the taxpayers of both the Urban and Rural Wards about this reaction and lack of response from our elected representatives.

You can post your comments on the PHCA website by posting to the form below. If you do not want to have your name published please send us an e mail by clicking on this link – http://porthopeca.com/page-templates-2/contact-us.
